Privacy Policy for Probe

Version: 1.2

Last updated: October 1, 2026

1. Introduction

Probe ("Probe", "we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our fact-checking service, including the website at https://useprobe.xyz and the Probe Chrome extension.

By using Probe, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect and Why

2.1 Account information (Google sign-in)

You sign in to Probe with your Google account on useprobe.xyz. We receive and store your Google account email address, name and profile picture (avatar) URL so we can create your account, sign you in and show you who is signed in. Sign-in is handled by Better Auth, and your account and sign-in sessions are stored in Probe's database on Cloudflare. Each session records the IP address and browser user agent it was created from, for security. Signing in with Google also stores the OAuth tokens Google issues (access token, refresh token and ID token) in Probe's database so your session works; we never receive your Google password.

2.2 Verification data

  • Selected text - the text you choose to verify, sent only when you start a verification.
  • Page URL - the address of each page where you run a verification (the page you selected the text on).
  • Verification results - the claims extracted from your text, each model's answer and the consensus verdict.

These are stored in your verification history, which you can see on your dashboard at useprobe.xyz. We use them to show you your results and history.

2.3 Preferences

Your consensus setting (2 of 3 or 3 of 3 models must agree) is saved to your Probe account so it applies wherever you use Probe.

2.4 Subscription status

Verifying requires a Probe Pro subscription ($9.99/week). Payments are processed by Stripe; we receive your subscription status from Stripe (for example, whether it is active and when it renews). Probe does not see or store your card details.

2.5 Usage counts and service logs

  • Usage counts - how many verifications you have run this week, to apply the weekly verification limit.
  • Operational analytics - Cloudflare Analytics Engine records metadata for each signed-in API request (your account ID and email, the endpoint, HTTP method, response status and response time) and, for each verification, your account ID, the verification ID, the first 100 characters of the selected text and the page URL; these records are retained for about 3 months and are not removed by account deletion before they expire. We use them to operate the service, debug problems and prevent abuse.

We do not use advertising, third-party analytics or tracking in the Probe extension, and we do not track your browsing.

3. How We Use Your Information

3.1 Service delivery

  • Process your fact verification requests
  • Maintain your verification history
  • Apply the weekly verification limit and prevent abuse

3.2 Account management

  • Authenticate your identity
  • Manage your account, subscription and preferences
  • Respond to your support requests

3.3 Service improvement

  • Debug technical issues and errors
  • Optimize performance and reliability

3.4 Legal and security

  • Comply with legal obligations
  • Detect and prevent fraud or abuse
  • Ensure service security and integrity

4. Service Providers (Processors)

We use the following providers to run Probe. Each receives only what it needs to do its job:

  • Cloudflare - hosting for the website and API, and the database that stores accounts, sessions, verification history, preferences, usage counts and subscription status; service logs.
  • Google - sign-in with your Google account.
  • Stripe - payment processing and subscription management.
  • Mira Network's verification service - receives the text you verify and runs the multi-model consensus check.
  • OpenRouter - routes the text you verify to the AI models that check it. The specific models may change over time.

The AI providers process your text solely to produce the verification, under their own privacy policies.

5. Data Storage and Retention

5.1 Retention

  • Account information - until you delete your account. A deleted account is deactivated immediately and can be restored on request for 30 days; after that 30-day restore window we permanently delete it
  • Verification history - until you ask us to delete it, or until your deleted account is permanently deleted after the restore window
  • Stripe customer record - if you subscribed, Stripe keeps your customer record (name, email, invoices and payment records) after we delete your Probe account, unless we delete it in Stripe; Stripe retains records it is legally required to keep
  • Sessions - until you sign out or the session expires
  • Usage counts - kept only as long as needed to run and secure the service
  • Operational analytics - about 3 months, then deleted automatically (account deletion does not remove them earlier)

5.2 Browser storage (Chrome extension)

The extension stores the following in Chrome's local extension storage on your device:

  • Your sign-in session token and basic account details (email, name, avatar URL), until you sign out
  • Text you sent from the right-click menu, until you open the Probe popup to verify it
  • Your most recent verification result, for 5 minutes, so it is still there if you reopen the popup
  • Default display settings

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We share it only in the following circumstances:

6.1 With your consent

  • When you explicitly agree to share information

6.2 Service providers

  • With the processors listed in section 4, to the extent necessary to provide Probe

6.3 Legal requirements

  • To comply with legal obligations
  • To respond to lawful requests by public authorities
  • To protect our rights, privacy, safety, or property

7. Data Security

  • Encryption - all data is transmitted using HTTPS/TLS
  • Authentication - sign-in with Google; accounts, sessions and subscription status are stored by Probe on Cloudflare; payments are processed by Stripe
  • Access controls - your verification history is only accessible to your account

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights and Choices

8.1 Access

  • See your verification history on your dashboard at useprobe.xyz
  • Request a copy of your personal data

8.2 Correction

  • Correct any inaccurate data

8.3 Account and data deletion

  • Delete your account yourself from the dashboard (Account → Delete account)
  • Ask us to delete specific verifications from your history

When you delete your account, it is deactivated immediately: you are signed out everywhere (web and extension) and can no longer sign in, and any subscription is cancelled so no further charges are made (a period you have already paid for is cancelled at its end). If you deleted it by mistake, email [email protected] from the address on the account within 30 days and we will restore it. After the 30-day restore window we permanently delete the account, its verification history, usage records, sessions and preferences.

Your Stripe customer record (name, email, invoices and payment records) is held by Stripe and is not removed when we delete your Probe account. We can delete it in Stripe on request, except for records Stripe is legally required to retain. To delete specific verifications, email us from the address on your account. Operational analytics records (section 2.5) expire on their own after about 3 months.

8.4 Extension controls

  • Sign out of the extension at any time to clear the stored session
  • Uninstall the extension to remove everything it stored on your device

To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected].

9. Children's Privacy

Probe is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it.

10. International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws different from your country. We take appropriate measures to protect your information.

11. Chrome Extension Specific Practices

11.1 Permissions

The Probe Chrome extension requests exactly these permissions:

  • activeTab - together with scripting, gives Probe temporary access to the tab you are on, only when you click Start Verifying in the Probe popup, so it can read the text you selected there. The right-click "Verify with Probe" item does not need it: Chrome passes the selected text to the extension directly.
  • contextMenus - adds "Verify with Probe" to the right-click menu when you select text.
  • storage - keeps your sign-in session, text sent from the right-click menu until you open the popup, a 5-minute copy of your latest result and default display settings on your device (see section 5.2).
  • scripting - reads the selected text from the active tab, only when you click Start Verifying in the popup.
  • Host permission https://useprobe.xyz/* - lets the extension call the Probe API to run verifications and pick up your session after you sign in on the website. The extension makes requests to no other hosts.

11.2 Page modification

Probe does not modify the pages you visit. It reads the text you select only when you start a verification.

11.3 Data collection

  • Only sends the text you explicitly select for verification, and the URL of that page
  • Does not track your browsing history (it only records the URL of pages where you run a verification)
  • Does not collect data from other tabs
  • Does not load or run remote code

12. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page and update the version and "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of Probe after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
